Default Riddle #2 For Wordsmiths

Eighty views and zero successes for the first riddle. Isn't this fun!

One learns so much more by considering the other person's point of view honestly and maturely, instead of being condescending and claiming the OTHER person "doesn't understand."

A prison was overcrowded. Not just simply crowded, but OVERcrowded. That's more worser than crowded prisons.

The warden decided to release someone but made a puzzle out of it.
He brought three prisoners into his office and instructed them:

"A guard will approach you from behind one at a time and place a hat on each of your heads. He will choose each hat at random from a bag containing three black hats and two red hats. If you can tell me the color of the hat on your own head, you will be released. But if you guess and are wrong, you will be shot immediately. You must all agree to these terms."

All three prisoners heartily agree. Nothing to lose by not guessing.

After hats are placed in position, and no prisoner can see his own but can see the others:

1st Prisoner after looking at #2 and #3: "I don't know."
2nd Prisoner after looking at #1 and 3: "I don't know."
3rd Prisoner is blind: "I know."

Does he?

Explain.

-------------
And in fun, I used the term "more better."

Thanks, but no thanks. I prefer cryptoquotes to fiddling with probability issues. I find the quotes to be thought provoking and riddles rather annoying. There might be a need for a riddles site - maybe there is one, but it never caught my attention.

Red face Not the purpose of this site, but I'll bite

When #1 says he doesn't know, that means that 2 and 3 are not both red (because if they were, 1 would know his was black). Therefore 2 and 3 are either both black or one is red and one is black.
Assuming #2 understands this, he says he still doesn't know. This means that 3's hat must be black (because if it was red, then 2 would know that his was black).
Therefore #3 would know that his was black without being able to see the hats of the other two.
So 3 goes free but in walking out of the prison (being blind) he trips over a spare purple hat that someone carelessly left on the sidewalk and falls into the road where he gets run over by the hat maker's truck.

Prisoners #1 and #2, being extremely intolerant long-term members of cryptograms.org forum return to the general population where they are beaten daily by prisoners who are happy and well adjusted.

One might THINK that solvers of cryptograms occasionally like to step outside and get a glimpse of something thoughtful besides converting one letter to another, but then again, one might be wrong. There have been a lot of people reading these two riddles in the scant time they have been up. This suggests that they are a good deal more tolerant than guavamango and letfreedomring.

I would like to see it go away.
NOWHERE does any discouraging word from letfreedomring or guavamango appear on this subject originating November 18, 2016.

Riddles are games which we can all enjoy, particularly when they have such informative meaning as those I posted. When everyone is given the exact same information, profoundly different conclusions are always drawn, and the two protesters showed this in spades, diamonds, hearts and clubs.

Marandu: Ads on the site are a valid subject for discussion. You certainly have the right to ignore any discussions that you think veer into the political.

Since you are focused on the game and aspects thereof, you might be best served by ignoring comments and forum posts that do not seem clearly and directly game related.
Just so.

Default And the solar eclipse has WHAT to do with cryptograms, exactly...

letfreedomring and guavamango?

Nowhere in this thread does either of your posts appear, chastening the author for failing to post in accordance with YOUR dictates.

NOTHING to do with cryptograms, and yet not a whisper of protest from letfreedomring or guavamango.

So many here profess to love cryptoquotes but nobody has made an attempt to solve this one?

Naked in repose
Silvery silhouette girls
Adorn my mudflaps

1. To find a woman you need time and money, therefore:

Woman = Time x Money

2. Since “Time is money”

Time = Money

3.Therefore Woman = Money x Money
or Woman = Money2

4. If “Money is the root of all evil” then

Money = Evil

5. Therefore Woman = ( Evil )2

so that Woman = Evil
