Post How does scoring work in Cryptograms?

I seem to get more points by being in the middle of the bell curve than being ahead of it. Of course it's impossible to make apples-to-apples comparisons between different puzzles.

How does scoring work in the cryptograms games?

The quote-difficulty rankings were adjusted a couple of years ago, so you may see some comments about that on some of the quote solution pages.
