I don't know if beer is alive, unless you count the Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast), but if Ben Franklin says it, it must be true!

just my 2 cents
I, personally, am a HUGE fan of beer. Being the fantastic bartender that I am, I just consider it "product endorsement". I don't know how Ben was such an early to bed, early to rise guy if he was such a beer fan...I suppose he just started drinking early.

kat, when you really examine his quotes, you can give them a little latitude. After all, what does "early to bed" really mean? So far as we know, that could mean he went to bed early in the afternoon. Perhaps afterwards he would rise in the early evening and begin to carouse. He might then have proceeded to drink copious amounts of Samuel Adams' stock. Just a thought.

Beer
I enjoy a good beer, but I don't think I can do cryptos so well while drinking.
On the other hand, that is a good reason to not spend all night doing them. Just 'cos Ben said "Early to bed...", doesn't mean he followed his own advice. Had a history prof many years ago (too many, but that's beside the point) who specialized in Ben Franklin. My impression from him was that Franklin enjoyed a good time more than going to bed early and getting up likewise. L'chaim y'all.

To Ben and all of us who enjoy the occasional (or more likely, in my case "semi-nightly") libation, whatever it may be... a quote from a silly novel I read when I was maybe 12....
