"A moment's thought shows that man's feeling of isolation has no foundation, biologically or sociologically. We grow out of the Universe, we are an expression of it."
Paul Ingram

montyb on 2012-09-07 00:55:29
Of course there are times when I seem to be the most obscene of all expressions the universe could muster; the profanity of all creation.

montyb on 2013-07-07 02:23:58
I must have been really bummed when I wrote that.

windsong on 2014-11-02 03:50:22
It was apparently a moment's thought with no foundation! : )

LizardLeap on 2016-03-04 00:34:25

Default Great example of camaraderie and wit.

Then why is Altoid putting me in the dust?

Altoid701 on 2009-08-01 19:32:10
Sorry, Bansai. Mwahaha.

momof7 on 2011-03-27 05:50:47
On this cryptogram, I think that you left everybody in your dust, bansai

pootie49 on 2011-04-21 00:34:05
I dont know I think we manage pretty well. He leaves us all in the dust.

montyb on 2012-05-14 19:30:17
Compared to you folks, I'd be happy to get up to the dust level.

Barnabas on 2013-08-20 22:16:50
We are the dust, and Bansai is the Swiffer!

montyb on 2015-07-04 14:05:16
Barnabas, philosopher extraordinaire.

marnita on 2018-01-16 02:54:41

"This doctrine of the material efficacy of prayer reduces the Creator to a cosmic bellhop of a not very bright or reliable kind." Herbert J. Muller

saipanwriter on 2012-11-01 05:20:36
ugh--why not just say a not very bright or reliable cosmic bellhop...

chopstix on 2014-06-22 15:48:58
because it's a dis on top of a dis, rather than one big dis.

The service is terrible in this universe. It's so hard to find good help these days.

"I have a spelling checker. It came with my PC. It plainly marks four my revue mistakes I cannot sea."
Janet Minor

kat on 2009-04-09 16:18:26
Deliberately misspelled words in a crypto? That's a little below the belt.

pootie49 on 2011-05-07 21:44:44
ohhh this is evil to put this in. just evil.

lainie18 on 2012-06-15 23:31:17
Hey, it's witty. Lighten up.

montyb on 2013-07-03 13:21:00
I LOVE this, especially with the misspelled words. Ah, technology! It helps you make bigger mistakes faster and more efficiently.

iltquilt on 2013-07-06 14:38:36
It would be even more evil if it read: I halve a spelling chequer. It came with my pea see. It planely marx four my revue miss steaks I can knot sea. Not trying to give you any ideas Admin.

Talking Laughing at my own expense.

"The degree and kind of a man's sexuality reach up into the ultimate pinnacle of his spirit."
Friedrich Nietzsche

Degree and kind?

montyb on 2014-10-05 04:22:12
I have a Master's degree.

Hooray, BrainCellKeeper!! I know you were incredulous for a long time about the fast solving speeds, and now you finally got one! What a great way to start the new year!

"Science has always been too dignified to invent a good backscratcher. "
Don Marquis

pootie49 on 2009-04-21 19:48:55
They have one - its calle a wife/husband

dbs on 2012-04-09 13:18:23
necessity is the mother of invention-she must have been too busy with dignified stuff.

abra on 2015-03-20 16:11:52
We had one, but we lost it. Where does one go to buy a new backscratcher? Where could ours possibly have disappeared to? I think it must have been in the couch we sent to the Salvation Army. Otherwise, it would have popped up again.

darkyr on 2017-03-24 06:11:58
I went to the Salvation Army to buy a couch, came home with an outstanding backscratcher. Nothing in my science textbooks prepared me for the surprise.

abra on 2017-10-29 18:49:12
darkyr, you're welcome.

Default Everybody's a ǁʤϡG diacritic

"It is easy to be nice, even to an enemy - from lack of character." Dag Hammarskjold

bansaisequoia on 2009-06-20 20:10:49
This former UN Secretary General's name is actually Dag Hammarskjöld.

bansaisequoia on 2009-08-19 23:39:00
The author of this quote is Dag Hammarskjöld.

bansaisequoia on 2009-09-05 02:06:13
Let's try this again without a diacritic. The author of this quote is Dag Hammarskjold.

bansaisequoia on 2009-12-23 18:18:16
With an umlaut over the "o."

Lurker on 2013-01-21 22:16:21
Hammarskjöld

Lurker on 2013-01-30 19:36:22
Nuts. It looked right when I typed it!

puzzleme on 2013-05-25 04:32:04
You two people are crazed!

chopstix on 2014-01-31 05:49:08
hahaha!

318WOZ on 2014-05-02 04:02:39
This quotation is actually from Dag Hammarskj€©∞λ≥÷ƔǁʤϡѾ‰₩⓴.

montyb on 2016-07-03 13:33:35
Look folks, I don't mind a spirited discussion, but let's leave the ©∞λ≥÷ƔǁʤϡѾ⠰₩â swearing out.

Default Of cats and gas

"There is a particular disdain with which Siamese cats regard you. Anyone who has walked in on the Queen cleaning her teeth will be familiar with the feeling."
Douglas Adams

WRQ9 on 2012-12-16 02:30:48
Apparently, "farticular" is not a word.

jnoodles on 2013-05-24 12:52:34
"FARTICULAR"!!!!! Wonderful!!!! You have just become immortal by coining this one. I plan to use it often. "I seem to detect a farticular odor."

kjmcaj on 2013-05-26 19:40:01
40 seconds.

Allen on 2014-04-30 11:46:51
Sir, your farticulosity is worthy of acclaim!

JD_1947 on 2014-11-21 02:45:26
. . ho hummm . . . I'm not farticularly fond of cats . .

tskaggs6 on 2015-10-20 18:42:28
Farticular is a perfectly cromulate word.

Quickly on 2016-04-21 12:47:50
hahahahahaha I will be using that word whenever possible. My dog is farticularly offensive tonight.

darkyr on 2016-12-29 05:22:48
Some farticles travel faster than the speed of sound.

mmfs83 on 2017-04-17 07:24:02
Siamese cats are very strange. I catsit one once for a week. I was overjoyed when the owners came home. And I like cats.

Persephone59 on 2017-06-03 06:26:36
There is an upper manager at work who recently was on a business trip across the country, and had a catsitter (from work). He found out while at a layover, that the sitter could not find the cat. He actually flew back home out of concern, and it was under the bed. LAME catsitter!

Default One of my favorite threads ever

"I'm so rarely the arbiter of what all women want. I'm usually quite the outlier on that chart." Rachel Maddow

maradnu on 2013-11-22 06:22:49
Well, yeah.

SippyGurl on 2014-05-28 04:35:44
i can think of at least one way

abra on 2015-08-28 10:01:55
I guess, she probably wants a nice house and a nice car, me too. After that, it get's iffy.

MatthewReynolds on 2015-11-01 01:29:55
Being male I would not presume to have an opinion on what all women want. Women are individuals, and they all want different things. However, in my experience, all women seem to want lots and lots of shoes.

abra on 2015-11-27 11:40:08
Wrong MatthewReynolds. I'm not a "shoe person", I need only four pairs or five pairs, of really comfortable shoes. They're just not a biggy in my life.

LLapp on 2016-04-09 18:05:07
Let's see, I'm a woman and I have one pair each of walking sneakers, garden sneakers, flipflops, warm slippers, and snow boots. Plus three pairs of nice shoes for board meetings or in case somebody dies. But usually I wear flipflops.

MatthewReynolds on 2016-05-12 01:45:49
Yes, I said "in my experience" Now I have experienced abra, who is female and does not require many shoes. In the future I shall change my observation to "most women, in my own personal experience" want lots and lots and lots of shoes.

maradnu on 2016-06-27 15:30:45
My wife, only half jokingly, refers to her Imelda Marcos shoe collection. Then again, the entire master bedroom closet is filled with her clothes and shoes. Mine are in another room.

kb83 on 2016-07-01 07:23:27
Vive the outlier.

LLapp on 2016-07-14 17:40:32
Matthew, you are close though, because what all women DO want is a foot rub!

hisashiburi on 2016-08-12 04:42:52
LLapp, sorry. I hate having my feet rubbed. I like it when people pay attention to what I'm saying (they don't have to agree). Do we have any votes against that?

MamaB on 2016-12-13 04:19:09
Ummm, a foot rub!

Persephone59 on 2016-12-18 07:59:44
I don't really like people to touch my feet, either. But I have tons of shoes. The good/bad thing about being single is, there is no one to say, 'you don't need that.'

letfreedomring on 2016-12-27 14:07:32
Rather than be enlightened on who doesn't like to have their feet touched, it might be nice to discuss Rachel Madow's contribution to communication.

LLapp on 2017-01-01 09:33:44
I stand corrected! And I agree that being heard may top the list.

badbob on 2017-01-28 00:12:57
women are individuals. we can't group them together when it comes to wants and desires. since we're on the subject, I have four pair of shoes.

bkmcincinnati on 2017-02-09 23:36:58
Thank you, Rachel and everyone else. I get so tired of being forced into conversations about why women vote certain ways and having to explain that we are all actually entirely separate human beings, each with our own thoughts.

mmfs83 on 2017-02-23 10:06:00
You betcha!!!

KMMRN on 2017-04-05 00:54:43
Hiking boots, hiking shoes, slippers, tennis shoes, dressy high heels, casual high heels, snow boots, dress boots, deck shoes, sandals. One pair each. Wow! That adds up to more than I thought! Maybe I am a shoe person.

BrainCellKeeper on 2017-05-21 14:08:32
And please don't think all women love shopping. I hate shopping!

LLapp on 2017-05-31 15:50:52
Update: Lately I've been buying shoes. I can't explain it.

SippyGurl on 2017-06-15 20:25:14
lol LLapp, the female version of the trump effect

Persephone59 on 2017-06-17 04:43:15
And back to Rachel Maddow; I love her. Very insightful, very witty.

zengard on 2017-08-23 14:33:03
Add loafers and flats and I agree with KMMRN with one exception. I want each in every color. And maybe a purse to match.

gryhnd51 on 2017-08-25 18:40:26
Ooh....these comments just made me laugh! I have more shoes than I will ever need, but many of them are more than 30yrs old (mostly winter boots for hiking, snow-shoeing, skiing, ice-climbing) I think most men have FAR fewer shoes than most women do, although my husband comes close to having as many as I do. I just want to add that I find Rachel Maddow to be one of the smartest women in the world, and I couldn't care less about her wardrobe.

abra on 2017-12-03 17:39:21
About those food rubs, I couldn't stand to have "people" touch my feet, but oh how I love a foot rub from my husband.

seastar228 on 2018-01-23 17:54:58
Wow! I need to go count my shoes.
