Question Unsolved puzzles

What can one do when they are logged in and cannot complete a cryptogram? I had one yesterday that I felt had an error, but had no way to see the solution. What can we do?

Talking Well

If you hit check it and an error screen came up then there was an error for sure...If you think that you had it right and possibly the program was wrong...well that almost never happens...First thing to do is check for words like "could/would...they/them...and/any" in other words similar words where only one letter can make a difference.

If you are intent on trying to keep at a 100% solve rate then its a matter of trial and error and can take sometimes a long time to find the right answer which is very frustrating.

There is no way to see the actual solved puzzle unless you solve it...it will appear again at some point and you will have another shot at it.

If you are stuck and the author is listed you can try and google the author's name and match the letter pattern to some of their quotes.
This being a cheat is a greatly debated subject here but alot of us do it.

Otherwise, if you are not concerned at keeping a 100% solve rate, move on to the next puzzle...the puzzle you were working on will come up again in the rotation.

Hope that helps...you can also go to the chat box and enter the puzzle in there which requires alot of typing and time but someone will try to help you.

Welcome to the site!!!

Good Luck and Keep at it

Default Unsolved, but not logged on

I've noticed recently that when I first log on, I will have two or three Unsolved puzzles listed in my Recent Games, even though I haven't been on the site for awhile! My most recent one said Unsolved from 14 min ago, and I hadn't been on all day! What's up with that?? (I'm sure it's affecting my Percent Solved. I'm not shooting for 100%, but still.)

Sometimes weird things like that happen. I lost my 100% last month.

Or, someone could have hacked your account. Change the password and see if that fixes the problem.

peejay, you may have figured this out already, but when i'm trying to find my error, it's almost always a letter that's only been used once--so i check all the letters with a '1' under them to see if they can be changed for another letter that hasn't yet been used.

of course, you then may run into the problem of the "letters remaining" that are shown not being correct (this is very often the case for me)---if that's the case, what i do is delete one of the letters that i've used and then re-enter it---that usually corrects that problem (though it's annoying and time-consuming).

good luck!

"what i do is delete one of the letters that i've used and then re-enter it"

You don't have to delete the letter first. Simply type a letter over itself (e.g. w over a w, e over any e, etc.). That will save you a bit of time!

good to know--thanks! (it'd certainly be easier if it just worked properly!)
