need help learning to solve pesky puzzle

I was given a puzzle to solve and the only clues that I have been given are: it is star trek related and there are 2 methods to solving it. I have figured out that it has been reversed, but can t get any further than that. Please help.... Dont give me the answer, but please help me figure it out....

How did you determine that is was reversed?

There were other puzzles on the origional page, and they all said the same thing for instructions 2 methods. I figured out they were all reversed and it made all but this one easy.

And were there 2 methods to solve them? Are you saying they were merely the text
written in reverse? Were they grouped in 4's like this one? I wouldn't mind seeing the
original page as it may have some subtle hints, but don't bother typing it all in if that's
your only option.

My point is, that I've exhausted a few "easy" things to try and am loathe to dig in for a
long-ish effort when:
1) there could be some clues, etc. to make things clearer;
2) it's not really my puzzle to solve.

And BTW, you may get more help at a site for puzzle solvers or general cryptography buffs or something. This site is really just cryptograms - which is a specific, and really simple, cipher.

It was copied and pasted as it was on the page. In blocks of 4 and the instructions are to use to simple methods. I have exhausted all of my methods... There are no other clues.

Thanks. There are some nice hints there. One is that it is a quote from Star Trek, you did
not make that clear (to me) with your wording before - your wording meant it might have
something to do with key or settings or subject. And then the whopper, there's a class
where the techniques were discussed. And I note the word simple. I tried several simple
techniques, but then I haven't had the class.

Start with the original. If you shift the letters back in the alphabet 3 spots - i.e. H->E; W->T,
I believe you will have a nice distribution of letters. I'm guessing a simple transposition of
sort. I'm haven't actually done this yet, though.

I have solved the cipher. The first step is, as I describe above, a substitution by shifting 3 places in the alphabet. And after that, it can be solved as a transposition, but that's more difficult than another way (although that's what I did).

Stop reading if you don't want step 2. The 4-letter grouping is a clue. In fact, after the proper substitution you merely reverse each group of 4. This will give you the quote from Capt. Janeway. While Janeway is not my favorite ST captain, I like Voyager better than any later ST series.
