Default Coulda Woulda

"It is impossible to go through life without trust. That is to be imprisoned in the worst cell of all, oneself."--Graham Greene

Don't you hate it when you get one of those quotes where it comes down to the last letter and you have two or more possibilities for that last letter? Of course, when I got the above quote, I typed "hell" instead of "cell" and was just one second away from the record time. D'oh!

This must have happened numerous times to each of you Cryptediennes and Cryptedians. What are some of your least favorite words or phrases with more than one possibility? Obviously, we all hate "could" and "would." Can you name some others?

Smile Absolutely

And, any
There, these
It, is, in
Hell, well
Fight, might, right, night
Person, reason
Intolerable, intolerably
Possible, possibly
short, shout
low, log, lop
sad, say, sag
bad, bay, ban, bat
who, how
that, hath
else, ease

Just to name a few.

These are the ones that cause me problems:

would/could
may/can
the/she
has/had
and/any

Would/could is often the worst because they're interchangeable in a lot of cases, and sometimes you get to the end of the puzzle and you pretty much have to guess because neither letter has been used so it's a tossup. Very annoying. The same goes for may/can (they have pretty much the same meaning in a lot of sentences), though usually I can figure that one out if I've figured out the rest of the puzzle, based on which letters remain. But that takes time.

joy/god
just/must
never/civil/limit
pride/price

It's usually the ones with the lesser-used letters.

Also, deciding if the first word is the, one, you, men, man...

Red face And just one more...

Before / Become

I find these to be very hard to determine sometimes.

Ohh yeah, that one can be really annoying...

Also, just thought of this one: expect/except can be tricky.

I had wondered up until I saw your post if you were a computer or a person.
I thought I had some super fast solves and I always see bansaisequoia solve at least twice as fast. I started thinking maybe like in chess, they have a computer that solves them in record time. But noooooo you are for real!
Congratulations on being a speedbrain. You're the one to beat, but I haven't even come close. I get a very fast about every 5-10 tries. Cheers! Roger
