"Conscience is the internal perception of the rejection of a particular wish operating within us. "
— Sigmund Freud

chopstix on 2013-05-03 18:11:42
say that three times fast!

montyb on 2014-09-15 14:49:56
That, that, that.

LLapp on 2014-10-30 12:14:47
Poor Sigmund would never have been successful in this age of sound bites.

"How many people make themselves abstract to appear profound. The most useful part of abstract terms are the shadows they create to hide a vacuum. "
— Joseph Joubert

saipanwriter on 2012-05-22 23:58:28
Can there be shadows in a vacuum?

Lurker on 2012-10-16 21:24:39
Sure, if there's light. Just no echoes.

jeanering on 2013-01-11 03:00:14
they are full of hot air...

momn8r on 2013-06-25 03:24:55
And they will make your blood boil...

montyb on 2013-09-10 14:26:49
Shadows hiding a vacuum is pretty darned abstract.

SolarFlare on 2014-02-20 14:43:12
How many people fail to see the play of creativity underlying the expression of abstraction because they feel intimidated by it?

ericthirdrow on 2014-09-24 07:18:19
I picture massive cardboard cutouts of "abstract terms" casting a shadow that's conveniently hiding a Dyson vacuum cleaner.

BrainCellKeeper on 2014-11-11 14:18:23
How many people read this quote and feel confused because they don't understand what it means?

LLapp on 2015-05-20 17:08:38
ericthirdrow - you made me laugh out loud.

abra on 2015-09-30 13:22:23
I think the answer to the first sentence is many. ericthirdrow (who's name makes me smile) has covered the second sentence. He cut right through all that abstract profundity.

"It is better to light one small candle than to curse the darkness. "
— Confucius

maradnu on 2009-06-26 01:35:51
But it is more fun to curse.

fredsevent on 2012-04-18 04:53:39
Why not do both?

kb83 on 2014-07-02 09:42:59
Or at least curse the candle if you get burned in the process.

dovid1946 on 2015-01-16 15:24:15

mtvoyager on 2015-02-27 12:02:18
38 seconds.

oddcouple on 2015-08-13 16:30:01
Are we sure this was Confucius?

loki on 2015-10-04 09:39:12
Thought this was Emily Dickinson. Time to Google.

LLapp 04-09-2016 11:21 PM

Marnita's response cracks me up

"The high minded man must care more for the truth than for what people think." — Aristotle

kjmcaj on 2013-03-25 19:39:41

LLapp on 2016-03-25 20:44:02
I agree with kjmcaj.

marnita on 2016-04-04 12:58:30
I don't care what either of you think.

oddcouple 04-10-2016 04:51 AM

Laughed out loud at the third comment

"There is, incidentally, no way of talking about cats that enables one to come off as a sane person."
— Dan Greenberg

Yelircrypto on 2012-10-15 14:43:13
So True!

jobdevaa on 2013-07-31 17:07:13
As a cat owner I totally agree

tjsrc on 2015-02-27 16:38:00
You can try, but it always ends with "FLUFFY KITTY KITTY PURR PURR WHO'S A LITTLE CUTIE DEMON YES CAT. CAT."

LizardLeap on 2015-11-30 07:05:23
I have had the unfortunate experience of hearing myself talk about my cat...it...sounded...crazy....

— Amy Vanderbilt

"A great many people think that polysyllables are a sign of intelligence."
— Barbara Walters

montyb on 2012-05-18 00:07:28
Preposterous! Absolute blatherskite!

locodad on 2012-12-24 13:41:53
I don't think they are , because I don't what that means, so maybe they are right maybe I am not a polysyllable person. By the way, can you say polysyllable ten times without making a mistake/

nehiyawiskwewniya on 2013-06-02 16:31:13
Only in her world!

nanrich on 2013-06-21 23:50:40
Indubitably.

Allen on 2014-06-19 04:37:34
Polly Syllables--who’ll ever forget her?

jbb33054 on 2015-04-22 08:27:00
polysyllable is a polysyllable!

abra on 2015-07-26 10:19:32
Actualy, this time I agree with Babs. It must have been some night, Allen. :)

"The master's eye is the best fertilizer. "
— Pliny the Elder

sputnick on 2013-07-25 19:29:30
Seems like I've been using the wrong part of the cow for my garden...

maradnu on 2013-12-13 08:48:57
Sounds like a load of fertilizer to me.

beerfan95 on 2014-02-17 12:38:35
It took me longer to figure out "master's" then it took me to figure out "fertilizer"

universalmom on 2014-07-10 11:27:58
hard again…..

abra on 2014-08-01 10:55:31
I had Oyster's eye, do they even have eyes? Once I changed it to MASTER's it became easier. Still took 200 seconds. Only 192 more than the record.

universalmom on 2014-08-23 04:17:11
Haha abra, oyster's eye - that was my giggle for the day!

LLapp on 2015-03-25 16:25:26
This quote is gruesome! I say let the garden go and spare the master's eyeball.

fishbum on 2015-06-16 09:06:00
Consider he is not talking about a garden.

For example, you don't really need razor blades!
