View Full Version : What is Your Highest Score??

06-09-2008, 11:17 PM
What is your highest point total for a single cryptogram?

Mine is 446 as of 6/9/08 1:16 PM MST

06-10-2008, 09:12 PM
Not sure the exact date but I think mine was also 446...It was on a difficult category crypto that I solved in 19 seconds. I'm pretty sure that that's the highest I've seen. :) I don't know if I've ever solved one any faster. Sometimes I think the difficult ones are easier than the average or even easy ones, depending.

06-11-2008, 02:54 AM
I have found that difficulty is based on length not on how really hard it is to solve.

I have been thinking of posting a plea about everyone slowing down because I'm going away...It's just so much fun, although I have a compulsion to solve every single one no matter what.

06-11-2008, 03:46 AM
I have not really kept track of my highest score. I think it is in the 440s, as I don't really recall anything of 450 or above.

You are right about difficulty being based on length.

Enjoy your time away, and come back refreshed.

06-12-2008, 07:40 PM
I just hit two 446's in a row... one in 21 sec., the next in 24.:D I guess anything under 25 sec. rates a 446. (on a difficult rated puzzle, of course)

06-13-2008, 06:33 AM
I got some 446s, including on one puzzle I solved in 19 seconds. Since I've only ever done one puzzle faster than that (I managed exactly one in 17 seconds, and I don't recall the score) I'm not sure how fast you'd have to go to top 446.

06-13-2008, 11:45 PM
I started paying more attention and I managed a few 445s so far. I guess 446 is something to shoot for.

06-14-2008, 01:31 AM
I've solved a few in 19 seconds and have gotten 446. Same thing for 20-25 seconds ... 446. I have been watching, and I think it changes over to 444 at about 30 seconds. Some of the difficult puzzles are easy, but I have hit a few that take me 30-40 minutes of trial and error to solve. I hate those... end up with 10 points.

06-14-2008, 10:18 PM
I don't have the patience to spend 20 minutes on a puzzle, nor rarely the time. I commend those of you who do!

I did just get a 447...:) 18 seconds...

Still, doesn't make up for the fact that I had to let a puzzle go last night, losing my 100% success rate.:(

06-15-2008, 12:48 AM
a few months ago ... I hit one that I couldn't figure out... maybe Sandburg... "A poem is an echo waiting to dance"... something like that... I messed around with it for 20 minutes then went to bed... then came down and solved it .. after 48 minutes... got 10 points but preserved the 100%... i have gotten it again ... and it only took a few minutes to remember it.

06-15-2008, 04:30 AM
WooHoo!! A new goal. I use both the keyboard and the mouse so it's going to take some doing.:o Great Job >^..^<

06-16-2008, 06:54 AM
Tonight I hit 447 for an 18 second puzzle. Can't imagine I'll get a better score.

"A bore is a man who has nothing to say and says it anyway. "

You solved this cryptogram in 30 seconds. That's worth 445 points!

This Cryptogram's Statistics
Success Rate: 29.9%
Average Time: 112 seconds
Your Time: 30 seconds
Performance: Above Average

I have been watching and do not think I have had a better score, yet.

06-24-2008, 07:35 AM
Congratulations on those scores. I've seen 447 on a few very rare occasions (considering how much time I spend here) but have never managed anything higher.

I just noticed the bell curve for the first time tonight. It's a really neat feature, and I'm wondering how long it's been there. (When I was still living with my parents, one night I noticed the kitchen was a different color. Then I found out it had been that way for months.)

And by the way, it took me almost an hour to figure out this one:

Jove but laughs at lover's perjury.

This site is killing me. I'm up half the night trying to finish the work I should have been doing instead of cryptograms.

06-24-2008, 10:41 PM
I leave town for a week and come back in the bottom 50 (of course) but look at all the new features. The Bell Curve, who solved the most quickly, and even a chat room. WOOHOO.

I am glad Digirl is fine.

I like the post about haven't reached 447 yet. I like the yet. ;)

Gotta go, it will take me most of the rest of the month to get out of the hole. (*.*)

06-27-2008, 06:29 AM
Don't know what his score on it was, but I solved a puzzle tonight that another player solved in 15 seconds.

06-28-2008, 02:37 AM
What happens when you tie someone else for the fastest time on a crypto? I just did. Just curious....

06-28-2008, 06:48 AM
They only seem to show one puzzler under fastest time, so unless they are capturing fractional seconds, I'd guess they are listing the first person with that time.

Maybe the administrator could tell us for sure?

06-28-2008, 07:04 PM
Are the times based on scores before or after the CRASH? I don't recognize many of the names, is why I ask. :p

06-28-2008, 09:04 PM
I think post crash. There do seem to be some new folks with some very fast scores at times.

Just finished a puzzle in 16 seconds that bansaisequoia did in 10 seconds. At 16 seconds my score was 447, I suspect he may have gotten a better score.

Cute new avatar smoochie.

06-28-2008, 10:53 PM
Maradnu, as a matter of fact, I did hit a score of 448 on this quote. "There is nothing certain, but the uncertain." It's my only 10-second time, but I have hit the 11-second mark 3 times. I don't recall what the scores were on those quotes. Now to work on breaking the 9-second barrier!

06-29-2008, 09:53 PM
16 seconds! 10 seconds! I just don't type that fast! :) Good for you! And I agree on the avatar Smoochie...:D It IS cute!

06-29-2008, 10:27 PM
I wish it would sparkle like it does in PowerPoint:confused:

06-29-2008, 10:46 PM
Still cute, and very appropriate for the upcoming holiday.
I can't change mine....my cat likes his picture up on this site. :p

On a different note, I just solved a puzzle in 33 sec. that bansaisequoia (sp?) had the record time on of 13 seconds. Holy fast solving time!!!!!! Seriously...I have my doubts I'll ever get one in under 15 seconds unless my typing and mouse skills are vastly improved. Still, I'm enjoying trying! And I do get a little thrill when I see my name as the fastest, or when I break the record. I recently broke my OWN record on a crypto, lol!

06-30-2008, 06:19 AM
I hit a couple where I had the record... maybe 30 seconds.... and it took me 45 or 60 seconds to solve it again.... well duh! I must be getting dumber. I can't even recall solving them. I just move on to the next one and don't even read most of them. I have had quite a few which I solved in 20 seconds, or 25 seconds, and I am sure it must be a record, but someone else has solved it in 19 or 18 seconds!

06-30-2008, 07:39 PM
Me too. The dumber part, I mean.:o I think sometimes it all depends on my frame of mind. Some days I can whip through these things and some days I feel like my head is filled with pencil shavings. I guess I could chalk it up to lack of sleep, too much sleep, too many drinks the night before, or any number of things. Who knows?

Yesterday I got the SLOWEST score on one of the cryptos.... 800 some seconds. I REALLY felt my brain was turning to mush then!

07-10-2008, 06:20 PM
"Proclaim not all thou knowest, all thou hast, nor all thou cans't." by Benny the Frank took me 4474 seconds for 10 points and reduced by solving time from my all time best of 79 seconds to 111.6  The really sad part is I had just set a record time on the quote before. Oh well.

07-10-2008, 07:32 PM
That's awful! And what a difficult quote! You are a trooper for sticking with it! You have the 100% success rate still....

It seems to me that every time I set a record, it's my OWN time I beat! Lol!;)

07-13-2008, 07:57 PM
I'm so excited. I just scored 447 for the first time. My best before was 446. Solved in 18 seconds and beat the last record holder by 1 second.

07-13-2008, 10:05 PM
Great job!:)

08-25-2008, 05:11 AM
I've hit 448 several times. Usually involves solving the cryptogram in under 15 seconds.

08-25-2008, 09:33 AM
Flutefish, that is impressive. The highest I've seen in 447. You're an inspiration.

08-28-2008, 02:09 AM
Never thought of myself as an inspiration. Thanks for the compliment! I admire your success rate. I'm afraid I don't have the patience to sit and stew over puzzles to have the 100% rate. I'd rather have a really fast score.

08-28-2008, 03:35 AM
One thing that makes this site so great is that people who like to solve fast can be successful and people like me who like to figure it out can be successful in their own way as well.

09-05-2008, 01:25 AM
Speaking of fast solves, I just finished a proverb that bansaisequoia solved in 10 seconds....

There is nothing certain, but the uncertain.

09-05-2008, 02:23 AM
Laura, that was a quick one, but from what others have told me, AMelodyOfJuly has solved a puzzle in just 9 seconds. That taxes my credulity! Is it within the realm of possibility that someone on this site will one day break the 8-second barrier? It would be like running a three-minute mile.

<Congrats, AMelodyOfJuly!>

09-05-2008, 06:26 AM
I came across that 9 second time and found it unbelievable. Then again my best time ever was 14 seconds, and I seldom break 20 seconds.

Bansai - saw your time this month - averaging under 30 seconds! Wow!

09-06-2008, 06:02 PM
I got 444 seconds just a minute ago on a quote by Albert Einstein

I also got the high score (with a time of 31 seconds) but that's because no one else really played it yet.

"the most important thing is not to stop questioning"

09-06-2008, 07:00 PM
The cyphers that don't show any stats are quotes that were just recently added. They won't show any stats until enough people have played them to make the stats mean something.

Good job on the score.

09-07-2008, 01:02 AM
I just got another 444 point cryptogram

It was on an unattributed quote

"the infinite is in the finite of every instant"

This time, However, I wasn't the fastest time. BansaiSequoia did the same cryptogram in 19 seconds or so.
